Prosecco comes from the steep hills surrounding the town of Conegliano, some 50 kilometers due north of Venice. Here was silent white wine from the Prosecco grape wine producer Antonio Carpenè made when the idea came from a sparkling variant for centuries. His Prosecco was an instant success in the elegant bars around the Piazza San Marco in Venice and from there followed a rapid spread throughout Italy.
